Feeny to Cameo in 'Girl Meets World'

Boy Meets World fans can throw up their arms in jubilation while shrieking the Feeny call from building tops - like I plan to - because the Feeny is back!

If you haven't been following along with the news, the beloved sitcom is getting a spin-off sequel entitled Girl Meets World, which will follow the adventures of Cory and Topanga's young daughter, Riley. The series (or pilot as of now, but it seems extremely likely that it will get picked up by the Disney Channel as a new series), will seek to show the same kind of world exploring from youth to adulthood that the original series did, just from a girl's POV this time rather than a boy's.

For sure, we know that Ben Savage (Cory Matthews) and Danielle Fishel (Topanga Lawrence/Matthews) are returning to portray their original characters as the parents in this series, and a smattering of old faces are showing up on set to check out the series, even if they may or may not appear in it as of now. Confirmed so far to have at least visited the set are Will Friedle (Eric Matthews), Maitland Ward (Rachel McGuire) (who is pictured above), and William Daniels (George Feeny) (also pictured above). Daniels at least however is confirmed to have been there to work, meaning he's at least making a cameo in the pilot, whether or not he's a regular character or not. Given that Cory's job in the series is said to be a teacher, it's likely Feeny and Cory will have a discussion about that of some kind.

Interestingly enough, Rider Strong (Shawn Hunter) has denied his involvement in the show as of now, and almost makes it sound like he won't be coming back. His quote is "Boy Meets World was a defining aspect of my life, and I cherish those seven years. So I am extremely happy for Ben and Danielle to be able to continue the story. At this point, I have no official involvement in Girl Meets World." Note the 'at this point' however, which could just mean he hasn't been approached and hasn't visited the set yet.

New actors have also already been cast for the main characters of this series. Rowan Blanchard has been cast as Riley, the lead character; Sabrina Carpenter has been cast as Maya Fox, Riley's best friend with some troubles (so female Shawn 2.0); Teo Halm is Elliott Matthews, Riley's older brother whom his parents worry will develop 'Eric Matthews syndrome'; Peyton Meyer is Tristan Friar, a transfer student from Texas and possible love interest for Riley; and Corey Fogelmanis is Shamus Farkle, a nerdy student (think Minkus) who may or may not be romantically interested in both girls.

I for one remain cautiously optimistic and actually pretty excited for this pilot as time moves forward. With so much of the original creative team (including original show creator Michael Jacobs) at the helm once again, I think we're ready for a return of my absolute favorite sitcom.
