Synopsis: The Tenkaichi Budokai is held once every five years! A mere eight people are able to participate in the tournament’s main event! The preliminaries to select those eight people are divided up into four blocks!! Goku and Kuririn fully display the results of the harsh training that they received from Kame-sennin!! Tossing a veteran to his defeat, Goku splendidly gains the right to participate in the main event! What’s more, Yamucha also advances well, and wins his ticket to the Tenkaiichi Budokai main event!!

I think I just saw a guy that looked like Kid Muscle from Ultimate Muscle in the background of the tournament crowd...is that older than DB? Maybe this was a nice little homage to it?

There's also a guy who's even more of a Bruce Lee charicature than Yamucha with his screams. This guy looks like him AND sounds like him.

I'm not completely sure since my seiyuu ear is still being broken in, but I do believe Daisuke Gouri is playing Goku's first preliminary opponent. Actually, I'm sure now as he just made some worried sounds. Geez, Gouri is the Japanese Sabat for this show, and before anyone spazzes about me comparing their acting, I'm not - I meant that in the fact that both are in a LOT of roles in the franchise.

Bacterian (not sure just yet if he has a different name in the original) makes his first appearance sort-of, and Bulma gives everyone a nice free show, heh.

Those facial expressions, those screams, and that look - yup, this one guy is definitely a Bruce Lee reference.
